Coffee Cupping Session

Bear Market Coffee - Blackrock

Want to learn more about tasting coffee and brewing coffee at home? Please join us at Bear Market for cupping sessions. Learn how to evaluate different coffees from around the world and broaden your knowledge on single origin and bean blends.

What is Cupping?
Cupping is a method of tasting and evaluating coffee .  Whether it be Guatemala, Indonesia, Mexico, Kenya you can evaluate different flavours and aromas. Coffee tasting, is the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee. Cupping sessions involves deeply sniffing the coffee, then loudly slurping the coffee so it spreads to the back of the tongue. The coffee taster attempts to measure aspects of the coffee's taste, specifically the body (the texture or mouthfeel, such as oiliness), sweetnessacidity (a sharp and tangy feeling, like when biting into an orange),flavour (the characters in the cup), and aftertaste. Since coffee beans embody telltale flavours from the region where they were grown, cuppers may attempt to identify the coffee's origin.

In our Sessions
Customers will be able to taste at least five coffees of distinction and see the differences between regions and processing methods.

Our Next Class is coming shortly

Each session runs for approximately 90minutes with a maximum of 6 people per session.

Customer Testimonials

Just to let you know that I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening recently at Bear Coffee Shop, as part of a “cupping session”.
The cupping was professional and yet still relaxing as the numbers were intimate. Time flies when you are enjoying yourself, as they say, and the 90 minute session was full of interesting information from the two baristas. It was revealing to understand the terroir aspect of the flavours from different parts of the world, and now I know about the make-up of my favourite espresso at Bear.
The loyalty gift at the end was a nice touch. Best of luck with future sessions

The coffee course was great fun, and who knew some coffee beans could taste like tomato soup. You don’t have to be a coffee-holic to enjoy the night, just wallow in the enthusiasm and enjoyment.

The cupping class was amazing, very informative and a lot of fun. We all picked the house blend as our favorite coffee :-)
